Thabang Bogopa

Thabang Bogopa is a former South African Police Service (SAPS) detective and bomb disposal specialist, academic, researcher and technology innovator with expertise spanning explosives control, policing, forensic technology and security.

Following his law enforcement career within the SAPS Explosives Section, Bogopa transitioned into academia as a lecturer and researcher at the University of South Africa (UNISA). His research interests include explosives regulation, bombings, cyber bomb threats, police forensic technologies and white-collar crime.

Combining his operational policing experience with technology, Bogopa developed an Explosives ICT Control System, which incorporates biometric and tracking technologies to strengthen the management and security of explosives, particularly within the mining sector.

His expertise at the intersection of law enforcement, explosives, technology and emerging security threats has also seen him contribute to public discourse through various media interviews.
